Production: Editing process

As planned, we have started today the editing of our video. We have spent the first half of the lesson watching all our shots; we have about 20Gb worth of shots (93 files)!

I must tell you, there's a good amount of blooper! We will put them together soon.
During the second part of the lesson, we have imported all our shots into Final Cut Pro.

That's an awful lot of files!

... after we got rid of the useless ones ...

We have then made a start on base tracking...

Planning: Costume

Our performer's outfit was something we (the girls) preplanned over the phone. We kept all our original ideas of costume from our mood board. We were very happy with the outcome as we felt that the style of our performer fitted perfectly with the genre of the music. The subtleness of her outfit shows that our performer is a respectable artist and therefore serious about her music. This completely goes against Laura Mulvey's argument on the 'male gaze'.

Production of Music Video

When we went to Brighton for filming, we came across some locations that we thought would work well with our music video but we weren't aware that they existed before our actual day of filming therefore we didn't get to include them in our pitch or storyboards. Some of the locations were:

Whilst wondering around brighton we came across  this strange looking object which we later learnt was fitting called ... "The Doughnut" ! which we filmed one of our base tracks through.

Another location we found was a boat on the beach front which we thought would go well with the lyrics and the water association theme in our music video.

Review Of Music Video

I reacently came across a music video for the song Headlines by a rapper called  Drake .which i found interesting

I think the reason why i found the music video so interesting is the use for a variety of split screens used throughout the music video as this is something our group have discussed about including in our music video it was interesting to see how it was used in everyday music videos and gave me a few ideas about how we could incorporate the use of split screens into our music video

Teacher feedback

I LOVE the photos!  They look amazing - and I particularly like the way that you've used photobucket too.  It looks like the filming session went really well - am looking forward to seeing all your footage on Monday.

Production: filming in Brighton pictures

That's it, we have finally filmed our video in Brighton! We were a bit worried about the weather but it turned out to be sunny the whole day.

From next week, we will start to put all our footage together and make a start on thr rough cut of our video.

You will find below a few pictures we took while we were filming... Enjoy!

I must tell you, it did not work at all!

Time to get some footage on the beach!

While we were walking towards the beach, we found this statue...

We decide to film another base track there...

A walk on that beach has led us to a lot of discoveries!
We have found this little boat, we thought
it would be interesting to try to film another base track there

Planning: First day of filming

It has been confirmed that our first day of filming will be tomorrow. Konrad has booked the group saver tickets which are at £6 per person for our group of 5. We will be taking the 9:06 from Victoria which will arrive in Brighton (East Sussex) at 9:58. We'll take as many different shots as possible so that there would be a variety of shots to choose from when we edit and then take the 18:49 train back to London which will arrive at 19:41 leaving us plenty of time to film during the day. There may be light showers with sunny intervals tomorrow therefore we will bring umbrellas just in case.

Planning - Date of filming

Last week, due to unforeseen circumstances, our lead singer couldn't go to Brighton. Therefore, we are trying to re-plan this carefully in order to be able to film during half-term.

We have booked the equipment until next Thursday, which leaves us 5 days. However, with the current weather condition, this does not leave us a lot of time!

Our lead singer wasn't available during the week-end, as it was too short notice for her to get a cover. However, she is available on Monday and probably on Tuesday. (To be confirmed tomorrow)

If our main singer cannot make it on Tuesday, our back up singer will be available to film on Wednesday.

Forecast the MetOffice

Forecast from the BBC

Unfortunately, most of our group aren't available to film on Monday. It is important that everyone's input is considered, therefore we will film on Tuesday or Wednesday and consider Monday as a last resort.

Although there's a chance of heavy rain on Tuesday, they do say there will be some sunny spells. We don't think there's a lot of chance of that happening but we do hope the rain will at least clear off.

The fact that we have planned everything carefully allows us to tackle any of the problems we encountered so far.

So, just a little summary...

We are planning to film on either:
  • Tuesday 25th October
  • Wednesday 26th October
  • Monday 24 October (Last resort)

UPDATE - Our main performer has confirmed she will be available on Tuesday 25th October.

Research: Music videos

Recently, The Saturdays have released a new music video for their new single. There are some elements of the video that I think will fit well with our video. Although the video is set in the isolated land of Norway, I like the use of establishing shots of the setting with the singers in the centre. There are several establishing shots of each singer within different backgrounds throughout the song. Each individuals outfits are different in terms of colour, style etc. but yet similar in design. This is one of my favourite videos at the moment and has already hit 543,966 views on YouTube despite being released just a week ago.

Cancellation of tomorrow's trip to Brighton

There have been a change of plans for tomorrow; our lead singer cannot make it due to an important appointment therefore we will reschedule our trip to Brighton for the half term. In the mean time, we will be planning the filming so that when the time comes we will be fully prepared.

Me (Natalie) and Danielle are planning to meet up with our soloist to choose several outfits for filming seeing as we now have the time to do so. And of course, we will be blogging regularly throughout the half term.

See you all soon ;)

Research: Cher Lloyd's Swagger Jagger music video

Whilst researching on you tube we came across Cher Lloyd's Swagger Jagger music video and noticed some of the editing such as the one in the gif above. The lyrics on the screen is something that we plan to incorporate into our music video.
Also whilts we were on Cher Lloydd's Vevo page we found a video of behind the scenes  of the swagger jagger video where there is a interactive feature where viewers can choose which  interviews they would like from the video's director  to stylists .
