Research - The function of a music video

As part of our A2 Media course, we will produce a promotional package
for the release of an album, which will include a music video and a two components digipak.
This blog will be used to record details of our planning, research and the evaluation of our work.

Music videos are used to promote and sell a song and the artist to the viewers. More than a simple advertising campaign, music videos are now crucial to the success of a song. However, this hasn't always been the case. 10 years ago, the business model of the music industry was safe enough for the artists to be sure they would get money from the record sales. Although the music videos were used for the same purpose, the standards were not as high. It wasn't so important. Today, the technology evolved and the music industry faces a strong decline in music sales. We are not buying physical copies anymore, we download albums or single tracks directly from our computer or from our smartphones. And most of us do it illegally. YouTube is now one of the main media used today. Therefore, the need to catch the viewers attention has never been so important. In order to do so, some artists have decided to play with the conventions to create a unique video that will attract and entertain the viewers.
But, will they actually remember the artist and buy their album?
